1936 Emigration nach Palästina; bis 1938 Studien in Klavier und Komposition am Jerusalemer Konservatorium; private Studien bei Stefan Wolpe und Wolf Rosenberg; 1948-1950 Studien an der Columbia University in New York; 1950-1955 Pianist und Kompositionslehrer in Israel; ab 1955 Beschäftigung mit Elektronischer Musik in Köln, München und Paris; ab 1962 Lehrstuhl an der University of Illinois in Urbana, 1968-1974 Forschungen im Bereich der Kybernetik am Biological Computer Laboratorium dieser Universität; 1978 Gründung des "Performers' Workshop Ensemble" und 1993 der "School for Designing a Society"; Pionier der computergestützten, kybernetischen Komposition und der Erforschung sozialer Strukturen von Komposition und Aufführung.
